The Right Message
With E cards\
I woke up this
morning feeling lonely and blue. You see
my wife is away in England and without
my soul mate it is hard to get motivated
and do anything at all, let alone work.
Then the sun came up on my world with an
E card in my Google in tray. It was an E
card as a post card. Not so much a 'wish
you were here' E card but more a 'won't
be long now till I'm there'.
From the Cotswolds
with love and snow.
My lover is in
England for just a few days, visiting
family. She has no time to shop and buy
a stereotype snapshot of Dickensian
Bourton on the Water. Write a brief
message, stamp it and post it and hope
it gets to me before she herself
returns. So what did she do to let me
know she was thinking of me? She made an
amazing E card She took a lovely photo
of the sunrise over the snow covered
hills of the Gloucestershire
countryside.
She downloaded the
photo file to her laptop and then
uploaded it to an E card site where she
gave it a sincere personal message.
Don't worry I won't embarrass you by
repeating it here. Anyway it was just
for me. Suffice to say it made me smile
and gave me just the boost I needed to
attack my day with vim and vigor. An E
card is so much better than the old
postcard because it is there at the same
time, or within seconds of the thought
that gave rise to it.
Watch your hard
drive! Now
I have completely changed my view on E
cards I always regarded them with
suspicion. How important can a happy
birthday wish be, if someone can't be
bothered to seek out a proper paper card
with a clichéd poem or standard wish? Is
there any real meaning in a thing you
can only see and not touch or keep? And
wasn't there a recent Internet virus
scare about an E card attachment. I
would never have opened my E card had I
not recognized the secret words only my
wife and I share. You can't be too
careful when it comes to the integrity
of your hard drive.
Well my E card of the
Cotswolds is printed out and smiling
down at me from the white board over my
desk. It is giving me the warm glow of
closeness with someone who is still over
a thousand miles away. A paper postcard
could never compare with my beautiful E
card
Naturally I did the
same thing immediately and our hearts
and minds touched across the length of
Europe. We live on the Costa Tropicale
in Spain so I immediately shot to the
roof terrace and took a photo on my
mobile phone. I put a gecko and some
flowers on my return E card and zipped
it off back to her Blackberry. A little
Spanish sunshine in the gray mists of an
English winter. But more importantly E
cards can put your thoughts and feelings
almost instantaneously in the mind and
heart of the recipient. |
